why play therapy

Children don’t always have the words to express what they’re feeling, especially when life feels confusing, overwhelming, or uncertain. That’s why I use play therapy as the foundation of my work with children.
Play is a child’s natural language. Through imaginative play, storytelling, drawing, movement, and other creative forms of expression, children can process their experiences, express their emotions safely, and build the internal resources they need to thrive.
I am a Certified Synergetic Play Therapist, a model that integrates the latest understanding of attachment theory and brain development. This approach supports children to regulate their emotions, develop a stronger sense of self, and improve how they relate to others, particularly their parents or caregivers.

how play therapy helps children and families
Children learn to identify, manage, and express their feelings in healthier ways.
Through the therapeutic relationship and targeted parent involvement, we build trust, safety, and secure connections.
Children begin to make sense of their inner world and feel more confident expressing themselves.
Therapy provides coping tools that help children manage stress, transitions, and challenging life experiences.
I work closely with caregivers to help them understand what their child’s behaviour is communicating, and how best to support their growth.
my therapeutic services
In addition to play therapy, I offer a range of services to support the wellbeing of both children and their families:

Child & Adolescent Therapy
I work one-on-one with children and teens, using play, conversation, and creative activities to support their emotional growth, confidence, and social skills. Along the way, I keep parents and caregivers involved, sharing insights and strategies so you can support your child at home. In times of change, like a family separatio, we focus on helping your child feel understood, supported, and secure.

Parent Support & Consultation
I work closely with parents and caregivers as part of the therapeutic process. Whether we’re discussing strategies at home, supporting your child’s progress, or working through your own questions, these sessions are designed to empower and strengthen your connection with your child.
I’m also a trained facilitator in Circle of Security Parenting, an evidence-based program that helps parents better understand their child’s emotional needs and how to respond in ways that build security and trust.

Family Separation Support
With many years of experience supporting families through separation, I offer child-inclusive approaches that focus on children’s experiences and help parents navigate transitions with greater understanding and care. My background in mediation and family relationship work informs this area of my practice.

assessments
Understanding how your child learns, thinks, and thrives.

Sometimes, children face challenges at school that aren’t fully explained by effort, environment, or teaching style. They may struggle with attention, memory, language, problem-solving, or emotional regulation and parents are left wondering: What’s really going on beneath the surface?
As a psychologist who works closely with children and families, I offer educational and cognitive assessments to help uncover how your child processes information, where their strengths lie, and where support might be needed.

why have an assessment
An educational assessment can help to:

-
Understand learning difficulties, attention concerns, or behavioural challenges
-
Investigate why your child may be underperforming at school
-
Identify giftedness or specific learning disorders (e.g., dyslexia, dysgraphia)
-
Provide insight into cognitive strengths and developmental areas Inform school support plans and adjustments (e.g., IEPs or NDIS applications)

These assessments don’t just focus on what a child is doing, they help us understand why.
a compassionate process
Assessment can be a big moment for families — often coming after a period of uncertainty or worry. I approach every step with warmth, curiosity, and care, creating a space where your child feels safe and supported. My goal is to ensure you walk away with clarity, confidence, and practical next steps.

your experience
Sessions take place in a warm, purpose-designed space in Launceston’s CBD. Children benefit from a fully equipped play therapy room, while parents, teens, and adults can access a calm and welcoming consulting room.
Referrals are welcome from GPs (with Mental Health Care Plans for rebates), NDIS providers, or directly from families.
